Subject: Visitor visa..quick advice plz
  Good morning everyone

I am a British citizen. This is my No 5 visit to Canada (I love Canada by the way). In the past, the immigration officers used to ask me too many questions before they could stamp my passport. Also immigration officers, in the past, wrote (hand-written) the date of end of my visit (end of 6 months). I always left Canada in maximum 4 weeks of each visit. They never stamped passport on exit of Canada. So how would they know I had been a good visitor (not breaking the visa)

This time I was welcome in a friendly manner in Pearson. The officer stamped my passport but without specification of period and time. Now, I am applying for jobs in Winnipeg. I believe everything will be done in less than 6 months. Everything will be legal. I just love the place and the province. If things go wreong, I will happily return to my work in UK.

To make it short, does this new visa stamp in my passport mean 6 months or what? do I need to do anything for now or near the end of the 6 months?

Thank you a lot.

you can apply for those jobs but it is not legal for you to work without the proper permits.

as long as you follow the job rules part - you should be fine.

Thanks sharon

Regarding jobs and its legal surroundings, I am fine with this. I was asking "is my visitor visa stamp for 6 months only, as before?"...why did officers write the expiry date in the past but not this time?

since Sharon is too lazy to answer... lol

if nothing is writen on the stamp, it means 6 months from the date of entry.

Interpretation of a posting has to be up to the person who reads it.

First when anyone is stamped in and no date is written below the stamp it is deemed an undocumented entry and valid for a six month stay.

Now why would you be a Winnipeg lover, never been there but to each their own interpretation of that name.

It appears that the CIC/CBSA officers on all of your other four visits did not really trust you to comply with the IRPA and IRPR to leave on time when you were admitted as a visitor. Some officers are strict while others are easy going. Why this time they trusted you could be based on your previous compliance or your demeanor this visit at the POE.

Yes Canada like most countries do not require visitors to go through an exit visa type process but this posting leads me to believe that Winnipeg Lover may not be telling all the story.

How the smaller centre CBSA officers treat workers without authorization is far different then big centres. Be careful Winnipeg Lover!

Dear Roy

Thanks for your contribution.
Winnipeg lover is actually "Canada lover"...do you mind!! Yes I love Winnipeg..may be because I have relatives and friends here..and BTW it is a very beautiful city...so friendly...so nice. I know it can be harsh in winter.
My visa (in the past) was always of 6 months duration. So, I can´t see the difference (i.e. with or without hand-written date of expiry).

There is no story to tell Roy. I am British and a visitor (category of current visa). I am applying for jobs in fields they certanily need my skills as I need them. If I am successful then I will be happy to stay and work here. If not I will go back to my country and job there. 4 weeks from now will clear the matter.

It is nice that you all come to answer and help. I am really grateful.

good day
