Subject: do i need to apply for a new lmo if i change jobs
I received a positive lmo and got myself a work permit for my new employer.
If i want to change jobs in the next year, my current work permit becomes invalid, and i have to apply for a new one?? would that be all i would need to do, or do i have to apply for a new lmo and wait the 6 months for that to come through before i apply for a work permit for that employer?

Since your work permit is employer specific and it is based on your LMO you received of course you will need a new LMO. Then check out the In Canada applications for a work permit, complete that and submit to Vegreville Case Processing Centre. At this site on the document list you will see they ask for the HRSDC confirmation or LMO http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5556E.PDF

With your statement of six months I can only assume that your in Alberta.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, no I am in BC at the moment.
So if i were to want to change jobs, or be fired, I have to ask my possible future employer to hold the position 6 or whatever months until i receive a new lmo and however long it would take for the new work visa?
What employer would consider holding a position open that long?
And i cannot work in Canada while this is being processed?
I am also pretty sure I would not be allowed to be in Canada at all during the process as i have no status, is this correct?
What other options do I have, any route i look at to gain temporary or permanent status has a huge waiting list, like skilled worker - 4-5 years. What is the quickest way to get some form of permanent status here in Canada?

Denis why look at your current situation so negatively.

Apparently you have not been fired as of yet! Your in an occupation that can obtain a LMO and others are not. Certain provinces allow employers to seek out pre approval LMO´s seek out those.

Common sense has to prevail and does prevail.

If an employer goes belly up and has to close shop all employees are affected. CIC knows that and would cut any LMO holder slack to find another suitable employer.

Currently some estimates have the un-documented worker situation at almost 600,000 so why would a LMO worker who got fired be a big priority?

When you look at something so negatively crap happens. Their are always two sides to all stories try viewing your situation differently.

RE: PROCEDURE IN CHANGE OF EMPLOYER (in reply to: do i need to apply for a new lmo if i change jobs)
Good Day! Iam a temporary foreign worker currently employed as a hotel staff here in BC. Iam holding a 2 year contract as a housekeeping staff with a valid 2 year work permit.I have started work with my current employer 3 months ago.
Just recently my employer has expressed that she would not be able to keep me employed for the validity of my contract due to economic instability.
Despite this scenario I have 2 offers coming from prospective employers who are willing to sponsor me and provide me continuous employment which is not opposed by my current employer.
My question right now is what procedure or process do we follow in changing sponsorship from my current employer to my new employer?????

please advise

thank you
joel

Hi, my name is Veronika. I came to Canada 6 months ago, i did came on work permit to a hotel. My work permit is only for that place as a housekeeper. When i arrived tghey showed me my accommodation and it was a basement room with NO window or other facilities. I started working for them i was working 5, 6 or 8 jours a day +-. They didint charged me any rent but when i get my payslip i was getting for two weeks every day working around $370 which was nothing. I couldnt do anything...leave and find a new job as i have work permit oinly for this place. I met a man and became in love with him and after a few weeks i moved out of the "dungeon" , since i moved out they stopped giving me hours and in the end i just left, cos waiting for a phone call from them was really frustrating and never called me for work. I dont know what tio do., i need better paper work and than i can find myself a job. But how i can do that? Thank you for your help. Veronika
