Subject: application timeline of PR
  Hi there,
I am currently processing my PR under the skilled worker category and was wondering how long an application like this would take.

I am originally from Japan and I am currently issued a work permit from an IT company till 2011, May and they intend to assist me with my PR application.

if there is anyone who is going through this or who have gotten their PR through this category and could share their experiences that would mean a lot.

thanks !

Application Processing Times (in reply to: application timeline of PR)
Right now, it´s about 5 years from the time your application was acknowledged.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/times/international/02a-skilled-fed.asp#asia

Check the link often as this could change. Canada plans to catch up with this backlog and this could be shortened.

When I applied in 2003, wait time was 18 months but because of backlog, it became 4 years. Now, it could be the reverse as they really have a shortage.

Good luck!

Hi Techguy,

Are you in Canada with a valid work-permit? If so, then you have a very good chance in getting your PR in less than 18 months.

He has work permit (in IT) for few years and applied for PR (submitted his application in US). In less than one year he was asked to undergo medical exam (interview is waived). Last month he went back to his native country to get his wife. Over the week-end they "landed" in Canada.

If you are interested, I can refer you to a Certified Canadian Immigration Consultant who is familiar with your situation.

Good luck!

Thanks for your inputs. 5 years is a whole lot longer than I´ve expected :)

Yes I am currently working in Canada with a wrok permit; I have been working in canada for over 3,4 years now including the university co-op program.

Is strange that the list that in the list that one19 provided, there´s not an entry for Japan, and that there is a large difference in wait time across the countries.

Also, I am having trouble finding where I should submit my application:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/application-regular.asp#visa_offices

it says:
"Select the visa office that serves your country of nationality or the country where you have been legally admitted for at least one year."

but those two countries for me are Japan, and Canada, and neither of these countries are listed on the site. Is Buffalo, U.S.A. the closest for me here?

thanks

Hi Techguy,

If you are in Ontario, then you can submit your application in Buffalo (the regular application NOT simplified process). Buffalo will be a lot faster than submitting your application in Manila, Philippines. Canadian visa office in Manila covers Japan´s PR applications. Processing time will be as long as 5 years.

Hi Techguy,

If you are in Canada, another option is to apply for Provincial Nomination if the province you are in has that program. Check the CIC site for more information on that.
