Subject: Hello! I would like to find a job in Canada ...
  Hello!
I would like to find a job in Canada to get enough points for PR. However, it seems that in order to get it I have to come to Canada on a visitor visa and look for a job being in Canada since employers are reluctant to offer jobs unless I am in Canada in person. I wonder can I come as a visitor and apply for a work permit in Canada? What if I come in Toronto but my prospective employer is from Alberta?
Thank you in advance.

Even if you come to Canada on a visitor visa to look for a job, chances of you getting hired are slim. If you are looking for a low skilled job, your chances are better. However, for high skilled jobs usually employers are either not willing to wait for the work permit or they require Canadian experience, so chances are even lesser.

Do your research by looking for jobs in "Occupation under pressure list" for each province. Also, try Fort McMurray (Alberta) as not many people are interested in working there(at least for long term) but jobs are there. Other than that, you can look for jobs in Ontario (GTA), Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton), or BC (Vancouver) probably to see the job market.

Tatiana, be realistic ok, Canada doesnt look as beautiful as you see in media, there are thousands of homeless in this country almost 80 percent of the immigrants do labor jobs totally different from what they used to be doing in their own country....When there are many people in Canada looking for a better job, for a person like you ( being out of the country) finding a job is just a dream....Do not belive in the information you find in those Canada Immigration forums, the owners of such sites are mostly fishermen (immigration consultants) looking for a fish (immigrants)to catch!!!! So they do heir best to make this country look attractive, !!!

Even many Canadians in this country work abroad in places such as Japan, Middle eastern countries, or Korea to pay for their loans back in Canada...As an immigrant now a fake citizen (0f course my colour is DARK) for almost five years I am telling you this country sucks!!! Do not make the same mistake as I and many other immigrants made, since we are stuck here cannnot go simply we cannot afford and got kids to take care of ...
Still wish you luck...

Tatiana,
What is your trade ? Job prospects depend on your skill and education, and it varies a lot.

I think Len Kim´s point needs emphasizing. He expresses what many immigrants to Canada experience. I´ve seen evidence backing stories that professional jobs are not easy to come by for immigrants.

There have been many heated discussions on this board over the past few years on this subject. Members here who have come and gone often complained about the difficult professional job situation, and how it is biased toward native Canadians.

I´m not throwing water on the job situation, one just needs to have realistic expectations.

What Len kim told are true, his language may appeared to be harsh.

I know about my profession in Canada; Engineering. Engineers consists almost 75% of professional immigrants in Canada.

Ontario Soceity of Professional Engineers reported that there are more than 85,000 SURPULS Engineers in the work place till 2004. Now? At least more than 100,000.

About the Canadian degree holders; only 58% of Canadian Engineering grads are fortunate to secure a full time job. I personally came across Waterloo Electrical Engg. Grad doing apartment janitorial works. He is considered as full time employed byt the stat. No wonder Canada has a extreme high exodus rate among the developed nations.

So, be positive and Good Luck!

Well put Richard. It has been a tough road for the immigrants to get their message across, but slowly and steadily it seems like the message is coming around and people are beginning to see the light.
The recent CIC proposal basically vindicates the points expressed during the heated discussions, not sure how they implement it, but the thought process is on the right lines as far as "killed" workers are concerned.

DC, it would appear the new rules may be addressing some of your comments. I am waiting for the reality to sink in and the cries of unfair to begin.

It´s a no win situation.

Frankly I don´t know yet the new rules fully. Just overheard something. I sincerely hope that or any magic works. Wasting of so much of valuable human resources can´t be tolerable. It doesn´t help Canada in anyway (except for some exploiting employers); needless to say about the immigrants.

I would be very curious to see how any new rule may help in reducing the huge imbalance of demand and supply in the market. May be for the future immigrants. But how about the ones who are already in the market and added in the surpluss stat?
