Subject: Common law husband
Does anyone know if my common law husband (US citizen) can leave Canada during his sponsorship?

He would also like to know an answer to another question:

He has been in Canada for comming up on 6 months now. He is getting ready to leave back for the US for a couple of weeks to visit his son and family. He is worried that when he drives back through the Canadian border they will question him on why he was in Canada for 6 months and only went back to the US for a couple of weeks and now he is comming back already only after a couple of weeks of being away. Is is worrying for nothing?

We want to start the sponsorship process after he returns from the states but then he wants to leave again next November to go hunting as he is an avid hunter and cannot hunt in Canada until he is a citizen so this is why I am asking if he can leave during the sponsorship process to go hunting.

Hope this is clear as mud.

Thanks in advance.

yes there is a risk of them questioning the quick turn around and you will not know if it is going to happen until you arrive at the border. some officials are more compassionate than others.

any time you leave the country and return, you risk being declined and lying is not a great alternative.

People do it (come and go) but it is a crap shoot. He may want to rethink the hunting idea.
