Subject: Canadian married to a Chilean visitors visa
  Hi
I am a Canadian citizen who recently got married to a Chilean in Chile. We want to apply for a visitor?s visa to Canada, so we can visit my parents this summer but they want things like 1)three pay stubs, but my wife isnt working 2)proof that she has money in the bank, we keep all our money in my canadian account in canadian dollars, and either me or my parents will pay for the flight and we will be staying with my parents. 3)proof of ties to Chile, we have rented a house in her name and we are currently renting a house under her father?s name, she has her whole family here but logically she is married to a Canadian citizen...
The websites arent clear on what to do in this type of situation, we can get a letter of invitation from my parents, but any advice on what we should do? Should I submit my bank statements, since i will pay for the flight?

they need to be assured she is going home at the end of her visit.

What is keeping YOU in Chile? that should be part of your application. If you are coming back to Canada and think CIC will believe you are going to kiss her goodbye for 6 months at the airport... forget it.

I have been working here and there, I am applying for my temporary residency in Chile and we will both return to Chile because my wife is not interested in living in Canada, she just found a teaching position (today) and wants to have a career, and I am planning to continue my career here as well. Are you saying that we cant visit my family, because that seems completly absurd to me, as Chile was kind enough to let my parents into the country, without any formal visa application when we got married.

you can absolutely visit your family, but CIC needs to be assured that your non resident wife will leave when she is supposed to. Sadly, far too many people don´t and it spoils it for everyone else.

when you apply for your TV, include information such as her contract and information that outlines your ties and long term commitment to Chile.

that should go a long way in establishing your intentions.

Sharon, I don´t understand why CIC needs those prooves? She is married to Canadian citizen and someday (may be) will be in Canada. She won´t be illegal immigrant. My point is it´s natural that husband and wife would be together. Beside that if she applied for PR ( if her husband in Canada) thus CIC still need to know whether she going back to Chile OR not?!

I think Canada need to change its policy. I don´t know if someone wife/husband does not leave Canada what would be the problem? Do he/she get social/government assistances ( like unemployment benefits, housing subsidy) right away? I mean Canada can make some changes who can get those benefits; so all people would not get those.

Like Scandinavian ( Finland) country, you get everything; still bringing spouse is not hard not even for a student. Beause you won´t get so easily social allowances. IF CANADA think all people gonna stay in Canada they should NOT have VISITOR status.

Hi
Let me clarify. My wife now has a full time job with a contract that lasts for one year and she will have money in the bank when we go. Our vacation will be for two weeks because that is when she has holidays(not the six months somebody mentiod). Final question: If we bought our return tickets before we get the visa, would that be proof that we are returning to Chile?

Her and your history will go along way to obtaining a CVV. Go overboard to prove that you and your partner will be returning to Chile.

Get a well written invitation letter from your family regarding something other then that they want to show her Niagara Falls or Stanley Park.

If for some reason your family is unable to travel to Chile then by all means explain in detail.

You have a choice dot all the i´s and cross all the t´s or pay for your whole family to fly south.

YOU LIVE IN CHILE AND HAVE HEARD NOTHING ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF REJECTED VISITOR VISA APPLICATIONS THE CANADIAN EMBASSY REFUSES?. Yeah right, I believe that!

It is total shame how Canada treats Chileans with regard to visiting Canada. Without being prejudiced I have to say if yopu were bring a wife from India you could probaly bring her whole family cousins, grand parents and all. Canada treatment of Chileans is both prejudice and sick. I have had the experience of working in Chile off and On for the last 12 years. Any Canadain can vist there and can even stay in the country but you must be a rich or special Chilean to vist Canada. Shame on Canada !

Don´t feel bad... I am Chilean, my finacee is US Citizen and we have been engaged since June 07... filed for Fiancee visa November 07... still waiting. I am applied for visitor or tourist visa to meet my finacee´s family and was denied. I have no real assets, not too much money, I live with my parents but had a letter from my company that I would be visiting the factory in USA but was still denied.

Sign me...

Sad but waiting for my love.
