what does this look like to you?

Subject: what does this look like to you?
  I am a little puzzled.

our friend, fishing fighter suggests we all know how to reset our IP and we all do so regularly. How many of you do this? How many of you would bother to reset your IP 7 times in just over a week if you were not attempted to cover your tracks.

I have been puzzled by our friend and did a little poking about. I tend to be very protective of this forum and the people in it so my Sunday morning coffee has dragged out a little longer than I expected.

December 28 our friend switched IPs to 103.184.76. how do I know it was him - well, he has big concerns that we might not know it is him so he leaves a trail of names that bridge his IP adjustments.

in the case of 103.184.76 we had several different names but the train of thought was consistent. some of the names were:

ibarif1, i´m checked, fishing fighter, hoper(ex fishing fighter), peacekeeper, need help or can help.

this is highly unusual behaviour for a discussion forum such as ours. Most people pick a name and stick to it.

I made an inquiry to our web administrator and I learned a very interesting thing.

103.184.76 is the IP address for the Government of Canada Public Works and Government Services server.

does that seem strange to you???

Either our friend is hacking into various servers, or he is working for the government. Not sure which is more alarming. This IP was only used during the Christmas break - he has since moved on to 123.3.130.

what do you make of this???

I love Google. I am not on a witch hunt - just trying to unravel a curiousity on a slow Sunday morning.

I Googled ibarif1. seems our friend lists themselves as a web developer in Ottawa. female. (that would correspond to a comment by fishing fighter yesterday about shopping in Ottawa) Ibarif1 had a sad situation with Brainhunter. Managed to plaster her complaint over several forums. I hope she has resolved her problem.

that does not really explain the multiple names on the one IP or the fact that it is the Government of Canada.

perhaps our friend would care to explain herself.

only other option I can see is 4-5 IP addresses all playing games with the same ID.

Could be someone working at a government office with some extra time using their computer for personal reasons like this.

ok. I can accept that. but the IP´s from the Government office were between Dec 19 -29. Government offices were closed - or at least we are all lead to believe they are.

and why the endless changes in name and why the boasting about IP changes.

all seems very strange.

Hard to guess (in reply to: what does this look like to you?)
If it was a government worker trying to find out what is going on - he/she would learn much more without responding to any questions.
I really doubt it is a government worker, it is a probably someone trying to irritate our discussions.

Another thing is that some people travel a lot and they use their laptop - that way connecting to different hot spots and picking different ip addresses.

I would think a government worker would be far more professional in their responses or as you suggest, remain silent and watch.

our friend used the same IP for 10 days and then made a big deal about resetting their IP.

I am leaning towards Troll.

If you take the time to read some of forums where this person plastered there complaint it can be assumed that they were/are an IT contractor on assignment & in all probability to a Government Agency. The various IP´s probably lead to the sad situation and source of the Forum Complaints ?
