Subject: police certificates
I am an American citizen and want to apply for immigration within Canada under spouse class. I have several questions regarding police certificates.
1) I have been in Canada for more than 6 months. Do I need to get a police certificate from Canada? How?

2) The CIC website states: ?Applicants may also be requested to provide State certificates.? Should I not do so until Canada asks me, or should I do it just in case? And how?

3) Based on my understanding, The FBI will accept both the downloaded paper fingerprint card and the fingerprint card provided by the fingerprinting agency. I can use either one. Am I right?

4) If I put a deadline on the cover letter, would it help to speed up the process?

5) What are Appendix A (Request for Police Certificates/ Clearances and Authorization for Release of Information) and Appendix B (Fingerprints Request Letter) from the application guide for? Do I attach Appendix A along with cover letter, fingerprint card, and money order when I request the police certificate from America? Do I show Appendix B to a fingerprinting agency when I take the fingerprint?

6) I have left China for 9 years and several months (almost 10 years). By the time I get the police certificate from America, it would be 10 years, I think. If it would not be 10 years,I would hold on my application and hand it in when it pasts 10 years, so that I don´t need to apply for the police certificate from China. Is it a good idea?

7)Does the FBI mail police certificates to Canada? Should I be better if I request the FBI mail the police certificate to Canada or America?

Thank you very much!

You have to provide police cleareance certificates for all the countries you have lived for at least 6 months since the age of 18. As far as I know there is no exception to that rule.

1) Yes. Check on-line for details
2) I did not do it. Just FBI was sufficient, try that first.
3) Yes right
4) Yes, Almost Perfect!! in this forum recommends it, he knows all about it!
5) Don´t remember App A and B. We sent the downloaded forms and a check for payment
6) See rules at the top of my post
7) As far as I know the answer is "NO", they mail it back to you. I am not sure if you have an option in that others may know.
