Subject: Employment Insurance
Hi, I applied for canadian permanent residency to Buffalo in Dec. 2006 and got AOR in Jan. 2007.
Then I got IA in Oct. 2007. Recently I got laid off from the company which is my arranged employment.
Does it effect my immigration process if I get Employment Insurance from Canadian government? Has someone been in a similar situation before or heard of things like that?
Hopefully I can get some money to pay my rent at the moment.

Interesting.

Most likely not, lets see what the experts say.

FYI (in reply to: Employment Insurance)
Thank you, Departed_Canadian. But I need AE to have enough points over 67. I guess my point is around 78-82. Does it make a difference? But temporary lay off means I am still half employed in the company, right?
Anybody has some info for me? I need help!

In the EI application form companies have to declare the reason for the lay of, and they have to mention also return date, if they leave that blank that means it is not temporary. If they specify any date then it may be considered as temporary. In your case I hope it is.

ROE (in reply to: Employment Insurance)
Thank you for your help. I will ask my employer to give me ROE soon and see what it is like. They told me this lay off is temporary, but I guess even they don´t know exactly when they will be able to bring me back.
