Yes! Jumbled name, mis-spelt name, right name, wrong name., first name, last name... all problems solved and they gave me a G- license.

Told you before shouldn´t be a probelm.

One of the things that didn´t bother me in Canada was the smooth transition of US licecse.

I think some issues depend on the clerk you deal with. Some of them are like computers... they can do a lot of work but they dont have/use their own brains. Some of them indeed look into reality and relent... after all this world is for human beings to live peacefully!!

Yes, you need a permanent address on your license and PR card. I will move into an apartment this week.

BTW how far are you from your PR CB...?

Hi AP!
It is always nice to hear stories from newly-landed immigrant. So you found an appartment, all set to move all your stuff then where did you stay until then ?

For PR ... well I am eagerly waiting for PPR, medicals were received in Ottawa on August 31 so almost 2 months ago ...still no news. Some people like Praveen in this forum had the same timeline and he got PPR last week. So we are a bit worried but we will refrain ourselves for contacting Buffalo until end of November. I hope nothing wrong.

G-license is the Canadian driving license, the best one to get.

I have a brother in Canada and the rest of my family is in Michigan and Illinois. So, I did not have too much trouble finding a temporary residence.

Dont think too much about your PPR... You will get it in 2 or 3 months maximum... Spend your time and energy finding out how to survive in Canada for the first 6 motnhs or so. I understand that you will land on the day you get the Visa ;)

Its OK... but lower your expectations if you have too much. There is absolutely no escape from the first 2 year struggle... even if you bring a lot of money. Running money is important and you must find any job first and then focus on your goal to settling down in your field.

There is no magic touch or short cut to success in Canada... only hard work; but if you are focussed on your goals, you will get success.

Do not lose hope and confidence in yourself ever.

Good Luck!

Thanks AP!

Your message is encouraging. I will keep you updated. And yes it is almost like we get the visa and we go ... though we need to "unsettle" here too.

We are hoping to get PPR before end of November as we must decide to renew or end our lease by then. Otherwise we will get a timing problem though I guess it happens to many people.

To my knowledge, once the lease period ends, it automatically becomes month to month thing in the US. Ask your apartment manager or request for few more months but signing up another years lease will not benefit you.

I also think that month to month is more preferable then signing the lease for 7/12 months, then you have to pay 2 months penalty(common) rent if want to break it.
