| Subject: which visa will work best |

Im a canadian citizen, and ive been dating an american citizen for a while now. We´re trying to figure out how best to bring him to canada and keep him here so we can stay together. We plan on getting married, but wonder if it would be better to get him a work visa first to come to canada (if we can) or to get married and wait, or have him visit and then get married while hes visiting and then have me sponsor him....
There seems to be many options for us. Mostly we want the option that will keep us together through this whole process.
A little other bit, hes currently in Afganistan as a Marine, he will be there for at least a few months (regular deployment), its his last deployment and will be done with the Marines. So we have some time to get this done. Im not sure if the fact hes not in the states makes this situation worse or if the time makes it better.
Any help is appreciated! Tips welcome.

oh yeah and if it makes a difference on the advice, we´re willing to get married on his leave time at some point in the next bit if that would speed it all up and allow us to stay together once hes back from afgan.... this time apart is long enough. once hes out of there we just want to be together
