Subject: Family reunification in Canada
  Hello All.
My name is Gabriela, and am fed up with the policies of family sponsorship and reunification in Canada. My family and I have been Canadian citizens for about 19 years now, and are very blessed to live in a country such as this. For these reasons we wish to help some of our family from our homeland in central america ( El salvador to be precise) to come and join us or at least visit us in canada. Following many searches on the candian immigration website and calls to the immigration center, there has been no hope. The criteria in order to be illegible to sponsor family memebers turned out to be very difficult in my case and as I found out also in the cases of many other families.
Recently we made a visit to our home country and saw first hand how bad the situation is bad there and we swore to try everything to help out fmaily come to canada. I am currently A university student in a political science class and it just so happened that our major assignment is to voice our opinion on an issue regarding canada that bothers us. My first choice obviously being family sponsorship.

In my opinion, Canada is currently seeking immigrants/ ppl to come work in Canada. Canada is the country of democracy and a country open to multiculturalism. It has also been a country open, to refugees, a place they could call home, as our family once did. If one, is to pay to sponsor a family memeber, why does it matter which family member it is? why cant it be a sibling over 18 yrs of age? why must they be orphaned. If the family is willing to pay for all the costs should it be up to the family who they choose?
When I called the immigration, I was told that they could also come on a workers visa, or enterpreneur visa, in order to classify for the enterpreneur the applicant must invest quite a hefty amount of cash, which was not an option for our family memeber, and the workers visa, we had already applied for and nothing came of it.

This is merely my opinion and only wish I could do something about it, not only to help a member of my family to come here but to help the other familys in the same situation. I am also going to try to email the minister of immigration to see what her voice on this issue is. I would love to get some feedback on this issue from any one willing to give it, It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all for your time!

The Law is the Law and a politician?s promise is??..

I use that over and over again in every Humanitarian and Compassionate application. It gets the attention of every Immigration Officer who does not care for his/her boss.

Joe Volpe (former Minister of Immigration) said that family reunification is the corner stone of the Immigration Act yet to confirm ones Income and status in Canada takes Mississauaga Case Processing Centre 29 months! In excess of two years to look at an Option ?C? or Notice of Assessment and to confirm the sponsor is a PR or CDN Citizen.

So many politicians said all kinds of glowing comments regarding reunification of family in the last decades but unless you printed the comments they have disappeared because the Conservatives are now in power. When the Liberals said ?It is the government?s clear intention to?..? them no longer being the government meant the glowing comments have to go.

Now there is a new boss in town the problem is he is just as bad as the old boss.

You need to research how D. Codere former CIC Minister stopped parental sponsorships and never even told his fellow MP?s. Many here will say go to your MP but MP?s are sometimes kept in the dark too.

Check out the manuals OP2 section 5.24 to see if you fit. It is so narrow of a window to assist families very few can squeeze through it and that processing times are slower then parental sponsorships.

The question you need to ask is would your politician fix Leon?s if they took an average of $1,000.00 CA for furniture and promised prompt delivery and took 29 months to deliver a couch?

IRPA 3 (3) (f) Prompt Processing is an objective of the Immigration Act.

What is good for the Goose should be good for the Gander.

Hi Gabriela,

It is one of the ironies of Canadian Immigration Law. As a country, our immigration and integration policies are much more welcoming than the US, however when it comes to family sponsorship, we are much more strict in our definitions of who can sponsor who.

In the US, sponsoring siblings, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc.,... is possible (though the process is lengthy) but in Canada we have this bizarre up-down and down-up view on the matter.

Good luck with your research
