Subject: Question regarding medical insurance!!
I undersand that a new immigrant will have no medical insurance for at least 3 months after arrival [Which is sad :((.

In the mean while, if need be, how should a new immigrant manage medical costs? Out-of-pocket would kill...MRI/CT/US/Sonar etc...

Can a new immigrant buy interim insurance of some sort for these 3 months?
P.S: Guys, please spare me from negative replies... I know why it takes 3 months...paper work, etc. etc. Please give positive replies.

Thanks a hundred times!;)

Yes, during the 3 month wait many buy temporary private medical insurance. But my question is, if you´re healthy, is 3 months without that risky? I know accidents can happen, but millions south of the border live every day without.

But you´re probably thinking correctly to be covered with something. I think the best bet would be a high deductible policy that would be inexpensive, but cover anything major or catastrophic. Maybe others here have specific plans to recommend.

I found this website where you can get a quote. I don´t know if it is good or not, but at least it is a start. Maybe in your case you may find it helpful.

Congratulations !
Be prepared we have a little one too, she is now 18 months and full of life.

Now regarding insurance I don´t know if it covers pregnancy so you should be very careful with that. If you want to save money then buy insurance for your wife only.

If pregnancy is not covered I guess the only way if you cannot afford private insurance is to move temporarily to a Province like Alberta, that does not have the 3 months period. It may not be convenient in your case, just a suggestion.
