| Subject: Initial landing with PR visa - how long at airport |

Hi,
Does anyone have a ballpark timescale and overview of what happens at Customs and Immigration at the airport the first time one arrives with a PR visa? Every time I´ve visited I see people channeled off into the big side office at Pearson, where they sit in a waiting area and wait to be called. I only ask because I don´t want my wife sitting around in arrivals for a few hours waiting for me while "whatever-has-to-happen", happens!

I know this is not the answer you are looking for but ´it depends´. Time of day, size of airport, number of international flights arriving, how complicated your paperwork is, how long it takes to get your bags.
I would think that your wife will be more than happy to be waiting for you but you might suggest she give you 45-1 hour and who knows, you might end up waiting for HER.

Thanks Sharon. It´s certainly not unknown for me to be waiting for her in the arrivals hall!
But what I really wanted to know was, aside from usual queueing at immigration, and bag collection etc, if you have the visa do they actually do much extra paperwork at that end? I´m sure there´s not a single answer, just wondered what other peoples experiences were.

The procedure landing is very straight forward but usually airports but the Pearson office is very busy. A lot of people to process for Immigration etc etc.
Depending on what flight arrived before your it could be anywhere between 5 minutes to 45 minutes or so.
Once you arrive at the airport, the CBSA officer will check your passport in their band reader and he/she will ask you if there are more goods to arrive in a later date. Once you answer she/he will refer you to immigration (the room on the left hand side on the way to the baggage area).
Some basic questions including the address where CIC can send your PR card and if everything is in order she/he will sign (you too) your CORP.
Takes about 10 minutes.
