Subject: Permanent residence
Hi! I have permanent resident status since 1989. Sometimes I have to leave the country frequently for months because of family reasons. I am worrying about how long can i stay outside Canada and how frequently without losing my status. I am about to apply for citizenship. Do i have to stay in Canada during the application process? Thank you.

Go to this site with your travel dates from the past 4 years to see if you can apply for citizenship. There´s also an FAQ if you have further questions. Basically, you need to accumulate 3 years of residency in the past 4 years to be able to apply.
