Subject: Sharon - HELP!!!
  Hi Sharon...

I have few questions regarding sponsoring spouse.. Please advice.

1) I am in India and currently holds Immigrant Visa of Canada which is valid till June 2008.

2) I am getting married in October and want to take along my wife as an immigrant, could anyone please guide me how to get her application processed and how much time that would take.

Sincere advice will be highly appreciated.

Thanking you in anticipation.

you need to be in Canada to sponsor her.

First, based on your post you just have immigrant visa and not landed yet. So if you get married before landing, your VISA WILL BECOME INVALID and you will have to reapply again which will take years(5-6) from India.

My advise would be to land before you get married, come back to India with PR card and then get married.

To sponsor your wife, you will have to come back to Canada and live there.

Read this VERY carefully. if you have not landed yet - which means you have not arrived in Canada and had your passport stamped at your point of entry etc. - DO NOT GET MARRIED until this is done.

Yes, Advisor is right... your VISA will become invalid or you would never be allowed to sponsor your wife.

IF you are already landed as a PR, have your social insurance number, have a job etc. and a Canadian address, then you can marry BUT, you will need to be living in Canada to sponsor your wife. That means getting married and leaving her behind until the immigration work is complete.

As others said, if you have not landed and you get married then PR visa is void. You will need to send the passports back and ask the immigration to include your wife in the PR process. It will take another few months as she will have to undergo admissibility checks.

If you land and then get married, you can sponsor her for PR but for that you may have to live separately for few months.

It will take years not few months. After visa is stamped, basically file is closed and no one can be added to the file. Only new application will be the option.

you need to be employed in Canada.

if you advise CIC about the marriage before landing, they will withdraw your visa until all the paperwork is complete on your wife.

You have a problem with no solution that is going to suit you. You may as well decide now which is the best of the worst. If you are concerned about being away from your wife, inform CIC before you land and wait until everthing is sorted out for her to accompany you.

from what I understand, yes. I am assuming you are thinking of landing before the wedding.

Be clear that your only option after that is for you to be in Canada while your wife waits back home for the paper work to complete.

You will also need to show physical residency and employment in Canada to be approved as a sponsor.
