Hi. My family and I obtained our residency after our refugee claims were accepted, and we should be getting our PR card in a couple of months. My question is, after obtaining our PR card, can we go back to our country of origin, even if its just for vacation? I´ve heard from a few people that if you claimed refugee status and were accepted you aren´t allowed to go back to the country you fled from, even after you receive your PR card, is this true????

The problem is that if claimed that you were in fear of going back to your home country because you could been tortured or killed and our Government accepted you as a protected person and then you figured that you want to go on vacation to that place, don´t you think that you may be charge for misrepresentation?

Misrepresentation is a very serious offence in this country and an officer could write a report (44a) to start an investigation for a possible immigration fraud.

aww that sucks =( Yes, my mom claimed we were in fear and danger of being killed, which wasn´t a false claim, but I know we are not entirely in danger as long as we stay for a short while, are careful, and avoid places where we can be in danger. But I guess officers wouldn´t really understand that.
So does that mean we can NEVER go back to our country of origin because of our status???? What if I wanted to go back to live there someday?

Wait till you become a Canadian citizen. It probably takes about three years from now. Once you become a citizen, you are free to wander to wherever you want. If scrutinized, you can always declare that the conditions in your country have changed enough that you no longer see threat to your life. However, if you go there and get ensnared into prison for one reason or other, then your case can become a headache for Canadian government and they might actually plead for your swift execution, so to say, to get rid of your two-timing mindset. LOL
