hi (in reply to: Best city to live in Canada)
Hi KK , i had lived in canada for 2 yrs in d past , if u want a beautiful scenry ,mild environment , less cold , less hot in summer , then definately -Vancouver without any hesitation , i really dont have words 2 express the beauty of vancouver ,

2ndly if u want to have more and more jobs, stability in d business then prefer -Toronto or Calagary , without any hesitation .

this is my opinion , and everyone has there own. But Vancouver is also gud for business and all , but really dont have any deep idea about that , i know one lawyer , more like a consultant in vancouver , who helps new immigrants 2 by provinding knowldge or information about opening up new -businesses , and provinding d best place for that , if u want his no , i can give u , he lives in Vancouver.

Regards
And All d Best .

Consider these facts about Toronto. (in reply to: Best city to live in Canada)
KK:

Consider these facts about Toronto.

ALL of the 7 national banks in Canada have their corporate head quarters in Toronto. About 60 percent of all the national corporations in Canada, have their head quarters in Toronto. The biggest stock exchange in Canada is in Toronto, the TSX. The majority of the national insurance companies in Canada, have their head quarters in Toronto.

Toronto is the largest city in Canada. In both population size and financial power. Are you starting to see a pattern here ??

If you work in " international trade " it would be foolish to go to a small city like London or Ottawa, when you could be in Toronto. Largest city, with the most employment possibilities for you.

Jim B. Toronto.

I am facing the same problem though I am not in finance/business.

I was told by Canadians the following: if you want to save money and live decently, if you don´t make much income then don´t go and live in a big city. It is too expensive.

Then they gave me this example: you can live in London and work in Toronto, people do commute every day. Why not ?

I will also be moving and I don´t know where to go. I am in science. What can I do ?

CBV333,

If you have to look for jobs or business oppurtunities then you definitely have to stay in any major city, preferably Toronto unless know French for the resons explained by Jim.

I don´t see it is a feasible idea to live in London and commute Toronto daily. In rush hour 1 way driving to Downtown Toronto is 2.5 hrs if you are lucky. So planning on spending 5 hrs for job commuting everyday? There is no transit with London. You may park your car in Hamilton and take Go Train and thus can reduce time a little bit. However, still it will be hectic. have to consider also the gas costs now a days.

If you don´t have to stay in Toronto then London is defnitiely better option.

It is true that commuting is not ideal but THERE IS transit with London and that is how I got to know that people do that. There is the train from London to Toronto that takes about 2 hours.

But yes it is not very convenient I agree with that, theoretically it is possible but practically it is hard, I totally agree with that.

So you said that for business opportunities or looking for a job big cities are better ? Is that true ? So then which ones ? I don´t know where to go ... I feel like visiting each of them and pick up the one I like. I have only been to Toronto and Edmonton don´t know the others ...

I have started my research through Canadian Cities .. it is hard to decide really. I want to use my French in my future job but at the same time want to be also in a English environment because my spouse does not speak French.

How many bilingual cities are actually bilingual in Canada ? Anybody knows ? Thanks

If there is a Transit between London & Toronto then it´s new to me. At least I was not aware of it. There are regular Via train (Inter city) and Greyhound bus service for sure, but don´t know about Transit. Go Train (Transit of GTA) go as far as Hamilton/Nurlington/Milton at the west. Not London. If your work is in Missisauga/Brampton then only London may be viable.

Big cities are always better for job/business for many obvious reasons as well described by Jim. Particularly in Canada, it appears to me that major financial activities are very much Toronto & then Montreal based. If you know French then Montreal is even better option as living cost is less there (except gas). Your choice actually will be dictated by your professional field. I would strongly suggest you to look for the job opputunties in particular city area and hence you may have an idea about where is your hot spot. In general, no doubt, Toronto is considered to be the heart of Canada. That´s why Toronto has to digest more than 50,000 new immigrants every year.

Vancouver is probably one of the most scenic mega city in the world, but in respect of oppurtunities...good luck.

I think that NB is the only official bilingual province in Canada. Don´t know about cities. But any where in Canada, Eng/French bilinguals have huge advantage.

OK then I am wrong and you were right, there is not transit in London just the train, I did not know what you meant by transit now I see ... no it is only a train.

Anyway thanks for your message, I thought in some fully English provinces there would be desperate for French speakers so I thought initially I would move to an English one and Alberta has my preferences but now I think of Toronto ... and next month it will be different.

I wonder what KK will do, he is in the same boat. I am still looking for a job but from USA it is hard.

job in canada (in reply to: Best city to live in Canada)
Hi CBV333,

since you are looking for a job from usa, why don´t you ask your us company to just transfer you to their office in canada (id they have it).

Would that be ok and considered for canada citizenship?

CBV333,

I strongly suggest you or anyone moving from USA to seriously look for job before final move. Don´t compare Canadian market like the US one. I´m not scaring you, just friendly advice which I didn´t get at my time.

Your physical absence in Canada really doesn´t matter. Use any friend´s Canadian address..with your US phone no. Mailing address doesn´t have any real practical significance. Employers always give call, they don´t call for interview by mail. When they call you can explain your situation..currently in US..moving to Canada very soo..for the sake of better commnication using Canadian address.

I also used the same trick when I used to find for jobs in the US from Toronto.

Good Luck.

You are right - if use local address in your resume - you will get more calls... that is the great trick to use if you want to have a job while you are in US
