Subject: US Green Card /Canadian PR status
I have both US green Card Status and Canadian PR status, I would like to get some advise in this Matter. i am Intersted in both the countries .
Q) what is the Best Solutions to meet the Residecny reuirement to Keep status in both the countries.
I Read On www.Grasmick.com Q 16, Can one have both US Green Card and Canadian PR status , The asnwer is YES. and the solution on the site that one get the citizenship reuirement of one country then apply for the second .

Which I think can be possible if you live on US/Canadian Border town/city.
I lived always in US for past several years, and got PR status on Skilled migration .

I think if I COntinue to live on US physically ( have rental/own a house, Bank and US credit Card and Drivers licesne) and goes to work in Canada . In this way one can meet US residency requirement and by working in Canada, one can shows physical presnece to maintain the PR status, Once one Get US citizenship then if still intersted then moved residence from US to Canada and after fulfil resindecy requirement can APply for Canadian Citizenship.
DOes some one has other solutions or better opinion about this.
I spoke to Canadian Lawyer Who mentioned that Canada has no problem with this that One has US green Card .
I would like to know is there any one has done this way or any other solutions to this.
Please Advise.

You CANNOT retain both US GC & Canadian PR. Make no mistake. If any immigration official can catch you, your GC can be cancelled immediately. USCIS will cancel your GC specially if you get Canadian PR after getting GC. If you commute to US daily while residing in canada only then you can maintain both Permanant residency.

(they said you can´t have both Canadian PR & US GC..)

So be very careful. Also don´t forget about the tax liabilities for both of the countries.

i dont understand. why would US care if you have pr elsewhere? if you meet the conditions for both then what does it matter? i´m thinking specifically about the use case in Canada where you need to be present 3 of 5 years. for the other two years if you´re in the US why would they cancel your green card?

Better ask the question to USCIS, if you wish to have GC their you have to follow their rule. In general, "Permanant" means your intention have to be permamnt. If you have permanant residency for 2 countries that means your intention is in question. Isn´t it?

If you got it from EB based from H-1 then you should know how much time guys have to wait for GC. If you are 50-50 about US residency then better shouldn´t have gone for it. Same thing goes for the Canadian PR too. Many guys are in queue, waiting for long....

To me, it looks like Canadians are not that strict in this matter like the Americans. Last year I heard a story where a girl´s GC was immediately cancelled in a road POE by USCIS officials as she mistakenly said that her current residence is in Canada.

One of my GC holder freind was also thinking to apply Canadian PR, he talked to the USCIS guys and they clearly told them that he has to pick either of the two other than the special situations. So he had to cancel Canadian PR plan.

So far I know, special situation is meant to be only commuter green card. You have to commute to Us daily for work.
