Got it!!!
Applied under SW category back in January 2005 at the Sydney, Australia office. At the time the estimated processing times were 9-11-13-15 months. Ours took 31 months.
Rough timeline...i never really caught on to all the acronyms on this board.. so in my words...
Applied Jan 20th, 2005
They acknowledged Feb-05
(we moved to the USA in October 05 with work, file stayed with Sydney)
Medical Request Jan-07
Medical Completed Feb-07
Passport, new photos and final payment request ~June-07
Passports received August 3rd, 2007
No interview needed, i think i had about 68 or 69 points.
Needless to say, we´re quite excited.
Thoughts after all that waiting?
- you can´t put your life on hold
- you have to stay positive through the whole thing. they do get to your file in the end, even if it is years longer than anticipated
- take every opportunity you can with work whilst waiting, dont turn a good job down because the odds are you´ll be in that job for a long time (i.e. that´s why we´re in the US at the moment)
- you dont need a lawyer, just read the instructions, dont assume anything, read the instructions, follow the instructions to the letter, and read the instructions
- 2-6 years waiting is a very long time, and i think it´s really rude that people´s lives are at the mercy of a bureaucracy. i completely understand the frustration of all those with friends and family in Canada who can´t live there because your file is in the queue. in a perfect world, people could move where they want, then work out the paperwork. we lost quite a few friends simply through distance (we lived in Vancouver for a few years on a work permit and had to leave the country, friends etc before we applied again)
we´re planning on landing in September/October sometime, although i can´t say when we´ll move permanently for sure. since 1/you can´t put your life on hold during processing and 2/once you´re processed you have

(in reply to: Skilled Worker application from Sydney, Australia) Congratulation James on getting PR status. If you don´t mind your saying, I´m curious about the reasons for moving from Australia to Canada. Many people are also trying hard to negotiate the difficult immigration process to Australia itself.

(in reply to: Skilled Worker application from Sydney, Australia) mix of reasons, we went there originally on a working holiday visa (AU/NZ and CA have an agreement) and we liked it. We then were moved there on a work permit (coincidence) for nearly 2 years, and it started to feel like home (Vancouver). Canada just feels right, there´s nothing wrong with Australia, it´s just not for us.
