Subject: Taxes on Income
I have a friend who is applying under the Entrepreneur category, the visa officer is saying his income tax payments to the Jamaican Govt. does not reflect his true income, i.e his taxes are too low. Does a Canadian Visa officer concern with tax evasion in another country ?
Tax evasion is a culture in third world countries. This officer wants to reject the applcation because he is saying the networth is not legally obtained because the taxes paid are too low.
Can Roy or anyone throw some light on this.

The Canadian Immigration officer is doing his job, and making sure that the applicant is telling the truth, about his financial affairs.

I don´t want Immigrants coming to Canada who start things off with lies, or deception.

Jim B. the guy was not lying to the officer, he explained to the officer he did not pay his true taxes to the Govt. which is normal in all third world countries even by some in Canada who are self employed. They are many Chinese and Jews in Canada who are not paying their true taxes.Self employed business people do not pay their true taxes, so do not try and tell me nonsense. Even religious people try to cheat the tax man some pennies. But the questiion is this, should the officer penalised the man for just not paying his true taxes to the Jamaican Govt.? Everything else is ok except for this one thing about taxes.

Bally, which 3rd world country has a law that says you don´t have to pay your true amount of tax? I´m confident there´s none. Your friend better improve his taxation record before reapplying.

I'm self employed, and I pay my fair share of taxes in Canada. (in reply to: Taxes on Income)
Bally :

Before you lecture me about paying taxes in Canada, be aware of this.

I´m a self employed business man in Canada, with a partnership that collects debts and recovers leased cars for the owners, a auto leasing company. I pay my taxes ,every year, and Revenue Canada is satisfied with my returns. I´m very sure that you are NOT an expert in this part of Canadian law, and your comments about Jews and Chinese people is a clear indication of your bigotry.

It does NOT matter what pases for "normal " in other parts of the world, your friend is applying to come to MY country, so OUR laws will apply. Like it or not, that will be the case.

Thanks for your healthy contrbution and also the others, Snow 25 and Sharon. It is clear from these discussions, that honesty must be anywhere in the world, even with the tax man.I wish this matter now be closed.
