Subject: Immigration & Study permit
  Hello Everybody,
I applied for immigration in Jan 2004 from new delhi. I then moved to the UK for studies (m.Sc.). Recently, i again moved to Canada on study permit for doing my phd. (in Manitoba). I am doing my phd. here since may 2007.
since 2005 i havnt updated my file. However, i plan to do it now...
My query is,
-should i request a file transfer to the US.(since in new delhi it will still take 1.5 years more with the current pace)
-Or can i expect to get a priority as I am already in Canada, getting scholarship, paying income tax!!!!

Any other advice will be appreciated!!!
thankz

Parry

Parry,

You should ALWAYS tell the CIC officers about your whereabouts, like changing address or changing your status.

If you did not and they are trying to contact you in India, how would you know ? It is their business if they want to transfer your file.

If I were you I would immediately inform them where you are and try to find out the status of your application.

You can ask for transfer to Buffalo but file transfers are done if they enhance the program integrity. In your case, write a letter stating the reasons why it will be better if your file is processed at Buffalo. You will not get any priority and CHC Delhi is processing cases from 2002 so you may have to wait for atleast 1.5-2 years.
