Subject: Citizenship without 3 years physical stay?
I hear very different things from various people: some people say that 3 years physical stay in Canada is necessary in order to obtain CDN citizenship. Other people say that physical stay is only one of the factors that CIC considers, but that they also look at the total package (ie. the reason for absences, your connections in Canada during your absences, etc.,...)

The CIC website makes reference to a distinction between "basic residence" and "physical presence" and is quite clear that one´s application for citizenship may be granted, even if 3 years of physical stay isn´t reached.

Thanks.

3 years staying is the must. With very little exception, like working for CDN. Govt./employers outside of Canada like issues. However, in the exceptionl cases, only citizenship judge can decide.

If you can stay 3 years out of last 4 years then reasons for absences....doesn´t matter.

Read the ACT section 29 and then the regulations section 61 http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/I-2.5/index.html

Like you said there are exemptions if you comply
