I am a Mechanical Engineer from Barbados looking to gain permanent residency in Canada along with my wife who is a registered nurse. We are just now looking at the application process which seems very lengthy, however I believe we are both eligible to enter as Skilled Professionals. Does any one have an idea as to just how long this process (date of application to date of receipt of permanent residency status) might take and if they are any ways to expedite it?

If you want further info try www.cic.gc.cafor info on processes and timelines. Don´t think you necessarily need an Immigration lawyer and avoid at all costs ones that feel the need to trawl random threads for Customers !

Questions about Canadian Job Market (in reply to: Emmigration to Canada)
I watched this video on youtube last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhSWoMK_3zo
Its a very critical documentary on Canada´s Immigration system focusing on the types of jobs immigrants get vs. the jobs they want when in Canada. All are professionals with years of experience in their fields. I haven´t changed my mind about immigration but I have to ask:
1) Is there a need for registered nurses and mechanical engineers in Canada?
2) I am only 25 and my wife is 26, would we be attractive to Canadian employers?
3) Are they any good online job search sites similar to Monster.com but for Canadian Employers? We would love to have jobs waiting when we arrive.
