Subject: Illegal in US. Proof of Employment?
I been out of status in USA for 10 years now. I been working all this time and my employers have just paid me cash.

Now CIC has asked me for proof of employment (paystubs & W2).

Any suggestions?

You need to convince CIC that you were actually paid for your work which is why you have been asked to provide paystubs and W2. Can you think of something else which can prove that you were indeed employed by your employer? My suggestion write a letter explaining your situation and include the following: proof of regular deposits in your bank account, copies of cheques you received for your salary (if available), identity card issued by your employer (if available), any other document which may prove that you were in paid employment. More documents you have, better your chances.
I hope this helps.
Wait for other people´s opinion also.

If you can show that you are paying tax every year that proves you had income, it will help you too!

you will need to prove everything samm and cbv333 said plus if you can ask for reference letters from^past and present employers. we did it and it worked.

good luck

Can't pay tax in the USA without a SS number. (in reply to: Illegal in US. Proof of Employment?)
CBV333.

I don´t think it is possible to make a US income tax return, without having a valid US Social Security Number, so that the Internal Revenue Service can connect the person to the national computer system that trackes tax payers , by that SS number. Same thing applies in Canada, no issued SI Number, you have no way to make a tax return in Canada.

If the guy is "out of status " in the USA, I don´t think he was paying any taxes there, either . He said that he was being paid in "cash " so that leads me to think that he was "invisible " to the US Government.

Being invisible, in the USA, will make it all most impossible for him to get access into Canada, as he can´t account for that ten year period of his life, on paper.Obviously the CIC will reject him, on the basis of his whereabouts for that 10 years when he was "invisible " in the USA.

Sorry Jim B.,

You can be out of status/illegal in the Us and pay taxes too( illegals do pay taxes maybe not all of them but they do and the governement knows it, Nobody is invisible in the us... )

As for immigrating to Canada while being out of status/illegal in the us , it is possible trust me ( and I dont mean by cheating )

In USA, SS no. holders can also be out od status. BUT, still can pay Tax if they wish.

It depends whether Mr.Witch used to pay the tax for the past 10 years..would be unsual. Though for tax return you have to submit W-2 given by your employer. I don´t know how an employer provides W-2 to an illegal employee.
