Subject: Any chance for a youngling?
  Hi,

I´ve always wanted to move to BC after visiting it last year.
I am 18, starting college in one month. However, over the last 2 months or so, my desire to move to Canada has been so great that I am starting to dislike life here more and more in the United States.

I´ve done some very basic research regarding immigration to Canada, which seems to consist of getting a PR under four categories, living in Canada for 3 years, and then applying for citizenship.

I was very disappointed when I saw that I did not meet any of the requirements in the 4 categories of getting a PR.

Is there any other way I can immigrate to Canada? Perhaps as a college student? If it is possible should I expect insanely expensive tuition fees?

Since I am making pondering moving to Canada on my own. I will not have any support when I land (if I do at all).

Please, I would like some opinions about my dreams of moving to Canada.

S,
I went to Ontario, Canada from the UK 18 years ago as a Student, and paid ridiculously expensive tuition fees compared to Canadians (I think their fees were approx $900cdn whilst mine were approx $6000cdn per year).
However, it was one of the best times of my life, and only now so many years later, am I in the process of waiting for my PPR visa to come through - I have about 3 years to wait! So if you can do it now whilst you are that young, then go for it! I believe unless you have family over there already, then it is your easiest (if not cheapest) option to get to live in Canada. Good luck!

A word of explanation about fees (in reply to: Any chance for a youngling?)
The Universities in Canada are ALL publicly funded, which means that all of us Canadain tax payers are paying to operate them, and fund the salaries of the admin and faculty staff.

As a person who has yet to pay one dollar of income tax in Canada, dosen´t it seem fair that you will pay a higher tuition rate than a Canadian citizen will ?

International students made up 20 percent of last year´s graduating class at the University of Toronto, and of that number, many were Americans. So why do Americans come to Canada to pursue a degree ? Cost and value for the money spent. Employers are more likely to look favourably on a degree from a "top ten " institution in Canada, than some third rate liberal arts college in West Virginia.

Do some internet research and look at the following Canadian Universities. Toronto, Mc Master, McGill in Montreal, UBC in Vancouver and Queens in Kingston Ontario. The top five in Canada.

Jim B. Toronto.

I am sure that International Students would love to have lower fees and be able to work legally whilst at University, therefore ploughing the money back in to the Canadian economy. Things may have changed, but when I went to College out there, I had to pay very high fees, and was not allowed to legally work during my free semester...

What about the University of Western Ontario or University of Alberta ?

They both claim being in the top 5, am I wrong ?

Thanks for the info.

U of A and U of WO both are good universities. Richard Ivey business school at UWO is amongst the best in the world and Canada while some Engineering specializations at U of A are top class.

Top universities in Canada include: U of T, Mcgill, and UBC. Queens university used to be highly ranked but nowadays its not so highly ranked in Engineering or Business (except Executive MBA).
