Subject: ROY, PLEASE HELP
  Hello everyone,
My mom is going to marry a Canadian citizen and he is willing to sponsor my mom, I and my younger brother to immigrate to Canada. Right now i am studying college in canada. So what would be the procedure for me to submit the application? Do I have to send them passport once everything is done to get it stamped, then go through the port of entry at the same time with my mom to obtain the permanent residence? Do I have to undergo police and medical check (I came here since 17 years old).
Please consult me more on this. Your replies are highly appreciated.
Andy

All the basic information is in the guide and required documentation list found here. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

The key to any spousal type sponsorship is to show a bond between the couple. One should provide evidence of a bond between your future step-father and your mother.

You do not submit an application your mother and step-father do and include you as a dependent.

Principal applicant has to land first or at the same time as any dependents, So in theory depending on your agae and other factors if your considered a member of the family class your application will be processed at the same time as your mother´s.

Spousal sponsorships type applications through Beijing are two - four months!!!

Remember a spousal type sponsorship has to be proven and it is no different then two cakes. One decorated by a trained cake decorator and one decorated by me. Which one do you think will look the best?

Thank Roy for your prompt reply!
I forgot to let you know that I am now 20 years old. I am supposed to submit a separated application form is that correct? If i am in Canada, how would I deal with medical and police check?
I will have to leave the country and land-in at the same time with my mom if everything is done, right?
The application will be from Vietnam and processed in Singapore.

I dont really understand what you meant in the last statement about 2 cakes?

Thank Roy,

If your a dependent based on the reg´s you will be processed at the same time. The PA principal applicant must land first then the dependents, that can be one second apart.

So your 20 and still in school so your a dependant basically.

The medical can be done by any DMP and yes you will need proof of no convictions for any country you have resided in for more then six months since you turned 18.

Can I use COPR to enter Canada instead of a visa? Do they have the same function? I called CIC this morning they said after everything is done they will mail me COPR stamped on my passport and I can go to free zone between U.S and Canada then return to finish my landing. In case I want to go back to my home country and land-in with my mom, do I have to ask them to issue me a VISA?
If my mom will reside in Vancouver with my step father, Can I and my brother settle in another city after we become PR?
