Subject: Migrating to Canada
Hi there, I´m residing and working in Saudi Arabia for more than five years now. My husband and I are both satisfied with our jobs but then the problem is with our 2 kids. This country is that suitable for them, we really suffer each day seeing them grow up in such unhealthy environment. I´m a Filipina and my husband´s Syrian, we could live in both of our countries but then thinking of moving to Canada might give us a better life. Please tell us how we could migrate to Canada. I have relatives (cousins) residing in Canada, will it be helpful if I go by myself for a month visit and find a company that could provide me a working permit? Or will it just be a waste of time and I´ll just go back empty handed?

Hoping that anyone could help me on this.

DD

What fields are your husband and yourself working in? It makes a big difference when you´re going to Canada.

My husband was a Front Office Manager in a 5 star hotel (Al Faisaliah Hotel-Riyadh) and just recently he transferred to a travel agency as Customer Service Manager. I am currently working as Administrative Assistant at Real Estate Investment Co.,Kingdom City.

I have heard that they are in need of hotel staff in Alberta and British Columbia (Whistler). You could try the provincial nominee program.

http://services.gov.ab.ca/cps/rde/xchg/sa/hs.xsl/dynamic.html?topic=&subtopic=&topnav=living&audience=&facet=354&faqid=8877

There isn´t as large a demand for administrative assistants, but if you know a number of languages I think that would be an asset.

I hope this helps.

Hi DD,
We are on the same boat. I am Filipina too and my husband is Indian and that´s why we chose to immigrate. We´ve been in Canada since 2002. I guess for us in mixed-marriages, it is a very good decision, since it kinda gives us a neutral location that can cater to both our cultures. Why don´t you check out the cic.gc.ca link. Or go and have a free assessment from a consultant, just to find out which category you shd be applying for.

Goodluck...

Hi May,

Thank you so much for the advise. I tried going to the site given but it still kept me hangin´. I start to feel hopeless already but anyway, i´ll still keep on trying.

It´s kinda relieving knowing that there´s someone had the same situation as I am. I´m so happy for you!

Site Hanging (in reply to: Migrating to Canada)
Hi DD,

That´s a shame about the site. I´m guessing that this is the provincial nominee program, not CIC. I copied their basic description of the program for you:

"What is the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program?
The Alberta Provincial Nominee Program facilitates the immigration of skilled workers and the transfer of experience to address critical skill shortages within the Alberta economy by expediting the landed immigrant status process. The intent of the Alberta PNP is to create direct, economic benefit to the provincial economy by assisting Alberta employers facing critical skill shortages through the recruitment and retention of highly skilled foreign nationals. The Alberta PNP is employer-driven. Only Alberta employers can apply to the program to recruit or retain employees who meet critical skill shortages. "

I think you have to be in Alberta working on a temporary visa for a year, and settling in well, to be nominated by your employer for this program. It´s different in every province. In Nova Scotia, they will bring you straight in on their nominee program.

Good luck!
