Subject: Work visa whilst awaiting PR
Hi. I have applied for a PR visa through London (single applicant, UK citizen) and have been told that my application will be looked at in about 40 months. I have been approached by other Immigration Lawyers offering to find me a job on a Work Visa (if I pay them lots of money!) to fill the gap whilst waiting. They think that I could get one for 3 years. Is this a genuine offer? I don´t really want to have to wait 40 months, so if there is a way to get there sooner I am all for it, i just want to know how realistic this is, or whether there is any other way of being in the country whilst waiting for my PR. Thanks in advance.

Getting a work permit is an interesting option. I may do the same myself!

Or if you want to study you can also get a study permit. Or as you are UK citizen, you can go there for visiting without a visa and see if you can get some work opportunities then change your visa while you are there!

I think that is what people do if they cannot wait!

Thanks for the reply. But if i go to visit, and find a job, can i apply for that job within the country or do I not have to apply for a working visa from outside? It gets very confusing - or maybe it isn´t, and I just think it is!!

No you can apply for a working visa within Canada but you have to meet certain conditions that I copied and pasted below from the CIC website.

I don´t think you can apply within Canada if you are a tourist though you may find an employer who can sponsor you then you can leave Canada and return.

People say that it is hard to find a job if you are not permanent resident or Canadian citizen.

These are the eligibility conditions to apply
***************************************************

Eligibility to apply from inside Canada
You can only apply from inside Canada if you meet the following requirements:

*You have a valid study or work permit, or your spouse or parents have a study or work permit.
*You have a work permit for one job but want to apply for a work permit for a different job.
*You have a temporary resident permit that is valid for six months or more.
*You are in Canada because you have already applied for permanent residence from inside Canada. You will have to pass certain stages in the main application process before you can be eligible for a work permit.

*You must also have the following documents:

**A job offer from a Canadian employer
Written confirmation from Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) that a foreign worker can fill the job. This confirmation is called a positive labour market opinion.
In most cases, it is up to your employer to get that written confirmation. Information on the labour market opinion is found under Information for Canadian employers on the right-hand side of this page.
In some cases, you do not need a labour market opinion. (See Jobs that require a work permit but no labour market opinion.)
**A completed application, that shows that you meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.
You must also do the following:

**Satisfy a visa officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your work permit
**Show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family while you are in Canada
**Respect the law and have no criminal record (You may have to provide a police clearance certificate. See Security Screening and Medical Exams in the Quick Find section on the right-hand side of the page.)
**Show that you are not a risk to the security of Canada
Be in good health (You may have to have a medical examination.)
