Subject: work permit for US citizen |

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your time and any info or advice you can give!
My husband (a Canadian citizen) and I (a US citizen) are moving in August from the US to Canada as my husband got a good job. I´ve been offered a part-time position at a nearby university in our future hometown (I have a PhD, if that is useful info). My contract starts in Sept. with the beginning of the Fall semester.
Originally, my new employers told me that they would obtain a labour opinion and guide me through the steps needed to work legally, but we´ve just learned that an opinion can´t be issued for a part-time job. Now they tell me that I should apply for a temporary work permit, but don´t know much about it. I´ve done a lot of looking around the CIC website and I have some questions...
1) According to the application guide, I will need to satisfy an officer that I will leave Canada when my term of employment is over. My husband is Canadian and has a permanent job; I don´t plan to leave Canada and I don´t suppose anyone really would believe that I do. There is no specific type of documentation listed. Is this likely to be an issue for someone in my situation?
2) According to the same source, I´m supposed to provide proof that I have enough money to support myself. My job is part-time and sadly low-paying. Also, most of our savings is serving as the down-payment for a house, so we´re not going to have a lot of cash on hand, and what´s there is in both our names. Again, is this something I need to worry about?
Considering these regulations, it doesn´t seem like the temporary work permit is really intended for someone in my position - is there a different course of action I should be pursuing? I do intend to apply for permanent residency, but my understanding is that the processing time won´t fit into my time constraints (moving mid-August, contract starting early Sept.)
Thanks for your attention!
