you can apply today if you like. if you are prepared to take your time and carefully fill in your application form - no lawyer is necessary. CIC is designed to be done ´lawyerless´

Is your marriage genuine? Can it be conclusively proven that it is genuine?

If you answer yes to both then you do not need to wait or hire a lawyer.

If your answer to Anonymous´ questions is NO, you will get in deep trouble later on! So either way you dont need a lawyer!;)

Wait, if you married in Jan 2007, then why would you possibly need to wait? It is not like your marital status is about to change till Jan 2008...

Thanks Anonymous, Almost perfect n Nikolai for your inputs.

Well, I ´ve legal proof of marriage. but only reason I ´m waiting is to find the lawyer to help us in this process. I hear that taking help of lawyer reduces the chances of getting denied as they have lots of expereinces. But I know it is kinda expensive.

suggest me sth more...

thnanks again

To prove that your marriage is genuine provide evidence such as how you got to know your partner, your trips before and after the marriage, letter from some of your friends stating how they know you and your relationship, photographs of you in different places and home also, utility bills showing you are residing together, joint bank accounts, etc. Having a legal proof of marriage may prove insufficient in some cases cause the visa officer might think the person just married you to obtain immigration status.

If you hire a lawyer expect to pay over 2000 dollars and immigration consultants somewhat less. I won´t advice you not to obtain services of lawyers or consultants cause they are useless as some people would like to say. According to me competent lawyers and consultants can help you a lot with the process but the question is whether you really need one? Go through the forms, CIC website and see how comfortable are you with the process and you will get the answer.
