Subject: Cash needed to land in Canada as PR?
Hi, I have my immigration visa in my passport and plan to fly into Canada in August. I have immigrated under the skilled workers category and have thus already proven through bank statements to possess 10 000 CA$ required for establishment in Canada. While at the embassy I was told by the person delivering my visa that I do not need to bring 10 000 in cash while entering Canada with my immigration visa because I have already proven I have the money previously. However the immigration site says that

´You will have to present proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family after you arrive in Canada´ at the border control...

So what´s the consensus on this? Do I have to bring 10 000 in cash/travelers´ checks? Is having a proof of a bank account in a foreign country enough (Belgium or USA)? Anyone with past experience on this?

Well, its a little different story if you have a bank account in the US. If your bank has operations in Canada like the AMEX bank, ICICI or Bank of India etc. and you are able to access your account from Canada then there´s no problem. Brinb a latest bank statement.

However, if your bank does not operate in Canada, you must carry with you cash or travelor´s check or money order and produce at the border if asked. I know they dont always insist on checking your finances at the border but thats a chance you must be willing to take.
