Hello guys,
i am moving to canada from uk next month but i got a real problem. The thing is that i got a loan about ten thousand pound from a bank in the uk and now i can´t pay back my loan. so what i want to ask you guys that i will have have bad credit history in the uk, will that effect my application for morgage in canada? will they know what i did in the uk? well my bank is not international bank( abbey bank) and i think it have not any branches in the canada. so can someone please guide me on this? thanks in advance

I left the US with a debt 3 years ago, in November they tracked me down and passed my debt over to a collection agency here, and these guys really want the money!!!
Take my advice and work something out with the bank you´ll feel much better about it and you won´t have to worry about someone coming into your home and taking your property!

If you move there, it doesn´t work out (and it´s tough, even coming from the UK) and go back, even if you only visit, they´re going to have a record of you entering the country (or starting work there again). Say you´ve been away 10 years, imagine how much you´re going to owe. Do you really want to be faced with that prospect? You might say you´ll never come back, but what if someone is ill in the UK, or you need to go to a funeral? The credit people can always contact your bank, see if there´s any movement of money. There´s always a way (e.g. are you going to pay money into your UK pension?), and if I were you I really wouldn´t risk it.

Recently, I moved from the UK in the same situation like urs... the amount was just a mere ?3000 from Natwest.
In my experience they can only track u down if u provide them with an address.
I approached the bank and explained my current situation and promised to make the payment after I find a job in Canada after immigrating.
As long as you explain it.. you can have them wait.
In your case ?10,000 is a huge amount so better beware.
Furthermore, a few months ago it was in the London Metro Newspaper of an Indian National Student who had a loan of ?10,000 with Barclays had moved back to Hyderabad, India with the funds and never made any payments for about 6 months.
The debt collector tracked him down with the help of the British Council & the Indian Police... arrested the guy on a Friday so that he could spend the weekend in prison without any bail and was only released after he payed the funds with interest.
So, I would suggest.. dont dodge these guys because ?10,000 is a large sum of money and they will track you down in another Common Wealth Country.

So now people immigrate to avoid debts? Be mature and responsible, got your rights(money), accept the consequences!
Said you can´t pay the 10k but you HAVE the fund to immigrate and settle in Canada??? Well that just doesn´t add up....
Man... amaze what people are capable to do now... ooh wait.... are you lawyers?
