Subject: Option-C printout of Canada Revnue Agency question
  Hi All,

In the sponsorship evaluation form(IMM 5481), there is a special mention to include ´Option-C printout of Canada Revenue Agency´. I´m a Canadian Citizen living in the U.S. Can I include my U.S tax return instead? or Do I have to contact Revenue Canada to get this Option-C form even though I don´t live in Canada at this point in time?

I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,
Shahul.

What Option C printout would be available if you never submitted Inc ome Tax to be assessed?

Income is not an issue when sponsoring a dependent child or spouse.

Hello Shahul.

Since you are living in US, OPTION-C printouts may be a little hard to get.

Instead of OPTION-C printout, you can also get your personal tax information from Canada Govt. Website.

It requires an e-Pass and after registering for the e-pass you can get all of your personal information (tax included) from that site.

Roy, are you saying Shahul could ignore the requirement to provide Option C print-out because spousal applications are exempt from minimum income requirements? I´m confused. I would think he´d be safe at least submitting a copy of his US tax return and W2 form - and maybe a copy of a recent paystub. He can´t file what he doesn´t have, but at least he makes an effort then to comply with the request. Even if it wasn´t necessary, would it hurt? What do you think?

Hello Oronmum

The problem he faces is two fold. One Canada and USA now share toooooo much information. I have too many clients who are PR´s but (sometimes) living and working in the States or for a US company.

Then CBSA and CIC come after them when they sponsor their parents because of a residency issue. They may be doing an Internet type position and actually residing in Canada but being paid through direct deposit to a US bank and having US employment taxes being deducted and paid.

This poster is a Canadian citizen who is required to declare his income in the country where he is a citizen aka CANADA. Maybe I´m wrong but who wants to fight with the Tax Man so therefore I assume he is paying US Income Taxes and has not been paying ANY Canadian Income Tax therefore there is no chance of getting an option "C" printout. WEHO WANTS TO PAY TAXES TWICE??? HE HAS AN OBLIGATION TO SEEK A US REFUND OF ALL US TAXES PAID AND TO SUBMIT IN CANADA BUT THE AMERICANS WILL VIEW IT DIFFERENTLY.

INCOME IS NOT AN ISSUE TO SPONSOR A SPOUSE HE JUST HAS TO SHOW THAT HE WILL RETURN BEFORE OR ON THE SAME DATE.

option c printout (in reply to: Option-C printout of Canada Revnue Agency question)
Dear Sarah,

Well, that´s a good one, YES, as per the checklist, it is one of the requirements but in your case, since, you have been living out of the country and not been working as well, I don´t think, there will be any option c printout available for you.

However, yoou might still want to contact Revenue Canada for clarification. Beside income tax, option c printout also reveals if the sponsor has gone on welfare in the past. so to be on safer side, contact Revenue Canada
