Subject: New passport after Immigration application sent
  Hi,

I´d sent my application to Buffalo in July 2006. I received AOR in July 2006 and haven´t heard from them till now. I am working in USA on H1 visa.

IN December 2006, I went to india on vacation, and my passport got damaged in transit( the lamination came off at one end) due to which the US embassy advised me to get a new passport made and stamped, and so I did. The passport number is also changed on the new passport.

Do I now need to inform the Canadian Immigration people, about this change of Passport? How to do that please?

Thanks a ton!

Seema,

I wouldn´t notify anyone (yet). Whenever you are being asked to provide some other documents, like around IA, just attach copies of your new passport to whatever else you are sending to CIC.

If you are really paranoid, send them a letter and submit photocopies of your new passport. I don´t think anyone will die if you don´t..

If you notify them of your new passport, but forget to notify them of your new wife or a new baby in your family, or your new address.., that would be a completely different story.

Hi

I have been in the same situation. Initially for the PR I had given my first passport and a year later i had to renew my passport. I didn´t send anything to CIC buffalo. When it was time to get the PR visa stamped on my passport I took both the passport and went to buffalo office. they gave the stamping on the new passport. thats it.

No questions asked.

This is my personal experience and happened in Aug 2004. Not sure if anything changed now.

..and don´t forget that, as with any update mailed to CIC, to write the same info on cover letter and/or on envelope (I put the info right on the envelope) as you have to provide in order to log into e-CAS, which is:

- File #
- Last Name
- Date of birth
- Country of origin
