Subject: sponsor spouse outside or inside of canada
Hello, I recently got married, and I´m trying to understand if it makes sense to sponsor my wife in Buffalo, or let her join me in Vancouver and sponsor her from here.

I understand that it takes around a month to get Sponsorship Part approved, and then
1. Either I send documents to CPC-V for inside of canada processing which takes around 9 months
2 Or I send documents to Buffalo which takes 8 months to process.

Do I understand the process correctly, and that it would take around a year to complete the application process in any scenario?

Thank you,
Alex

Actually there are a couple of things about the process that you´re not understanding correctly. First, whether you file inland or from outside, you will submit the sponsor´s and the applicants paperwork, along with the clearances and fees, etc., together - to either the Case Processing Center in Vegreville, AB (for inland applications) or to the CPC in Mississauga, ON for outside applications. With an inland application the file stays in Canada and both sponsor and applicant are assessed through CPC-V. Sometimes the file is transferred to one of the local offices in Canada for further processing. First stage approval (Approval in Principle or AIP) is normally reached within 9-10 months, at which time an applicant can apply for a work permit. From that point the file continues to be assessed - usually with background and security checks being completed - and final approval can take from 12-18 months total.

With an outside application the sponsor is assessed at CPC-Mississauga, and then the file is transferred to the visa office that handles the region from which the applicant applies. When you say Buffalo, it indicates that in your case your wife is either from the USA, or has been legally admitted to Canada for at least one year. (If this is not the case, the application would be sent to the visa office covering your wife´s region of residence.) Buffalo is currently finalizing spousal applications in 4-6 months, but some can take as long as 10-15 months. Your first question, about having your wife join you in Vancouver and filing from inside, indicates that you are under the mistaken impression (as was I) that you have to file an inland application if your wife is staying with you in Canada. This is not always true, but is very dependent on where she´s from and her status in Canada. If you´d like more detail feel free to email me at oroimmi-cc@yahoo.com and I´ll try to give you some of the info that helped me (as a US citizen) make a decision regarding which way to file. Hope this has helped.

Thank you very much for your response. I myself got a green card through skilled worker program 2 years ago, and now I need to learn this thing all over again :)

Track my Sponsorship (in reply to: sponsor spouse outside or inside of canada)
I sent in my sponsorship application (with my wife?s application form) about one month ago now to the C.P.C in mississauga. I am currently residing in Spain and our application papers as I understand will be passed on to the Paris Embassy as soon as I am approved as a Sponsor. I would like to know if I will receive notification from the C.P.C. with some kind of tracking number (file n?) when I am approved?

Eligibilty to sponsor spouse (in reply to: sponsor spouse outside or inside of canada)
My sponsored spouse (landed in Canada a year ago) made a police complaint soon after and absconded. I obtained a divorce from India recently. Due to 3 year restriction, I am worried if I could sponsor my girl friend from another country before expiry of 3 tears from the date of my absconded ex´s landing..? My complaint (marriage fraud to come to Canada ) to Immigration Canada has not been responded in 8 months...
