| Subject: Is passport needed to enter Canada if you have PR? |
Say you have got your Canadian PR card. If you get out of Canada and come back later, do they look at your passport with the Canadian Immigration Visa on it ? or would the PR card be enough ?

Well, the answer is at the CIC´s website. Just a click away. I read that the PR card is what they ask when you enter Canada. But I don´t know yet. My PR Visa hasn´t even come yet.

Usually an airline won´t let you board an international flight without a valid Passport.
Once you have entered Canada and became a PR your Canadian visa is no longer valid and no longer needed to enter Canada.
All what you need is a valid Passport to board a plane and a PR card. Upon your arrival in Canada the Immigration officer or customs agent will scan your Passport to get you into the system and verify your PR card.
He/she won´t even stamp your Password and he/she will welcome you back.
Permanent residents have the right to re-enter Canada.

Bill, so what if I change my passport (i.e. the passport with their visa is expired & I exchanged it with a new one) ?
Its quite surprising that the Canadian side needs to check my passport.

Even if you change your passport keep in mind that as a PR of Canada you DON´T need a visa to enter Canada.
You can have a blank Passport that along with your PR card and that is good enough to re-enter Canada.
