Subject: Do I have to, too?
My lawayer contacted us a couple of days ago and informed that my husband has to take IETLS exam. My husband is a primary applicant.
We contacted the lawyer and asked if I have to take the exam too. It´s a shame but true that we dont like our lawayer. Anyways, she said "not at this point?"

Does anyone know if secondary applicant have to take the exam?
Are they ever asked to take one?

It an expensive test and very time consuming. I thought I go ahead and take suggestions.

Thanks.

Only the primary applicant may need to take the IELTS. Theonly point the spouse may provide are those related to education, family in canada, studies in canada and/or work in canada.

I have worked with one of the largest Immigration law firms in Canada and now I work with a Multinational full service Canadian law firm. I know what you mean when you say you do not like your lawyer. Most of them out there do not provide real service, just answer questions and even then are not helpful (as they cover their ass). - I am a paralegal

feel free to e-mail me with question (I do not wish to take money for my help!) dotan.ca@gmail.com

Mary,

1. You will never be asked to take the IELTS test.

2. Unless your case is really complicated, and not of the straight-forward type, you don´t even need a lawyer. The Canadian immigration applications were designed to be easy to complete and file without third-party support. There is a wealth of information on the internet and inside forums like this one.

The most valuable resource, and probably the only one you will ever need is the collection of manuals that CIC immigration officers use as a guideline, and it can be found here for ..FREE:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-guides/english/op/

After you are done reading the manuals that apply to your situation, you will probably be able to open your own immigration firm :)

Good Luck!

Departure Bay,

Do not encourage her to take the IELTS test! She is only the spouse dependent on her husband´s application. Her husband, as the primary applicant, will take the IELTS.
