does your sin number change if you apply to become a permanent resident or only if you get residency?
at the moment mine starts with a 9 as im over on a skilled work visa. Thinking of getting a mortgage and have been told its not likley ill get one because of my visa status.

SIN numbers starting with a 9 means (foreign worker or on a temporary status).
Once you become a PR your SIN number will change.
Don´t get me wrong, you could get a mortgage but it is going to take a little bit more of time and perhaps more $$$ since there is no reason for the bank to believe that you have a permanent job and they know that your visa could expire too.
