sponsoring spouse without a job (in reply to: SHARON ... can i sponsor my spouse without a job ?)
I´ll give this a go . . . although a spousal sponsorship is exempt from having to meet the current Low Income guidelines, the fact that you have no income at all might be reason for CIC to subject your application to further scrutiny and delay its processing. And I have to argue with the person who posted in your original thread that they don´t consider other funds available. CIC´s primary concern is whether you have sufficient income/funds to support your spouse so that it will not be necessary for them to request social assistance. I saw once where one sponsor was required to submit proof of savings, etc., because he didn´t meet the LICO guidelines and, for some reason, CIC had determined that in addition to the sponsors inability to meet the LICO guidelines, the applicant would not be willing or able to support herself. Don´t know what the end result of that was, but the point is that CIC did request proof of additional funds in that case. In addition, they will also take into consideration the available funds/income of other family members in Canada who could be called on to offer financial assistance/support. So, I´d say submit your application with your proof of funds, a good explanation as to why you´re not working, and any info on whether you intend to be working at some point in the future. If you can assure them that you and/or your spouse will not need to apply for social assistance after PR is granted it might end up not being an issue at all. If your initial information does not convince them of that fact, they will most likely ask for further info. Hope this helps.

if you are sponsoring your wife - and there are no children included in the application, then income is not a requirement. However, as others have stated... you need to convince a few people that you can support this person once they arrive.

Not sure what province you are living in but not finding ´a´ job (not necessarily the perfect job) is hard to imagine in a market with the lowest unemployement in 30 years.

hi,

First of all, thanks for the detailed clarification.

TO SHARON: what did you mean convince a few people: will I have to submit a written letter clarifying my positioin or will I have to convince them in an interview( my spouse´s interview)

oromum: thanks for the detailed reply.

sponsor without a job (in reply to: SHARON ... can i sponsor my spouse without a job ?)
One thing I wanted to clarify about Sharon´s response - the stipulation on no income requirements this: you can sponsor your spouse, AND your spouse´s children and remain exempt from income requirements; BUT, if your spouse´s children have children of their own (ie your spouse is a grandparent), the income requirements apply.

I think Sharon & Oromum clarified the matter. Only if you reside in Quebec, you need to have a job. See here;
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3900E.pdf

Otherwise, you should be fine, Job is not a must for the rest.

One of my friend sponsored his wife (single) from Quebec 5 years ago and he was needed to give proof of work. Quebec clearly doesn´t count bank balance as the substitute for work. Though, they are not very strict specially for single spouse. My friend didn´t have sufficient income according to that scale, but eventually his wife got the PR. Just they asked her (mail) how can her husband support herself after arriving in Canada. She simply gave some bank statemens statting her funds back home which she intended to bring upon arrival.

Mich,

If you can, go on sabbatical and thereby keep your job here. you might need a convincing argument that you will return to canada when sponsoring hubby from abroad. a freshly started business in his home country might not be too convincing for a CIC officer that you two have serious intends to settle in canada soon...

good luck!

you are going to have to prove that the 2 of you intend to live in Canada for your sponsorship application to be approved.

Training Points ??? (in reply to: SHARON ... can i sponsor my spouse without a job ?)
Sharon - I have a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from a Top Univ. in Pakistan. Additionally, I have MS Electrical Engg. Degree from U of I Chicago.

Do you think, I would be able to get 28 points under training section? I am confused as I read in a forum that most engineering degrees don´t carry points if they are earned outside Quebec. Any idea??

Thanks,
ZAK
