Subject: Divorce a sponsored husband
I´ve been married for about 2 years now. My husband arrived about 8 months ago. We´ve both decided that we are not meant to be together and it´s an amicable decision between the both of us. This is both our first marriage. Hence, noting the responsibility I have is not a concern but we wish to know what is the best way. Firstly we are separated even though we live together. I know I have a 3 year window where I am responsible for him yet we both agree that divorce is the next step. Do you sudgest we wait it out 3 year then file for a divorce. Would I get penalized if we do it before hand. I don´t want it to effect him. Thank you.

Hi
Taryn

I have gone throgh similar situation. Go ahead and take a divorce you dont have to wait for anything. You dont need a lowyer. You can go 393 university and file for divorce and you get free concelation there.

I mmigration has nothing to do with your divorce. As long as your marriage and divorce are genuine you are ok. You will be responsible for sponsership aggreemetn according to terms if he claims for social assistance. ohterwise you are find.
No body will loose status.

Make sure your relationship is genuine. Immigration dont like fraud and if anything is false you can be in trouble if they catch you.

As long as everything is genuine you are ok.

Best of luck
Ravi

Thank you Ravi. If I´m understanding you are saying that we don´t need a lawyer since it is amicable. If he claims for social assistance then it will effect me.

Our divorce and marriage was genuine. I´m feeling at a loss because I´ve never been through this before. I want him to feel safe here even though we are not together.

You mentioned that I don´t need a lawer is that because it is amicable. I don´t know where to begin without having to pay a huge lawyer fee. I live in Calgary, Alberta where do you reside. Thank you so much for your input it is greatly appreciated.
