Subject: How do you get started
Myself (British) and my girlfriend(Canadian) have been in Britain for the last 18 months. She has a working holidaymaker VISA. We had our first child 3 months ago, a beautiful baby girl. We want to settle in Canada, it being a far better place to raise our family. Im from Newcastle and although i love it, I´d prefer to live and raise my family in Canada.
What is the best way to begin? We were considering Denise and Olivia (g/f and daughter) go over after xmas and me join a couple months later, but would that affect the chances of me being accepted? Whats the quickest/cheapest way to get into Canada legally, possibly with citizenship? And what about our baby, she has dual citizenship obviously but what do we have to do to register her as Canadian?

Sorry to waffle on but we´re just lost as to where to begin. We want to start our lives afresh in Ontario but dont know where to turn or where to begin.

Go to www.cic.gc.ca - the Canadian immigration site. You have a very similar situation that I once had. I too have a Canadian partner and we decided the best way to go was through family class i.e. your girlfriend would have to sponsor you. The quickest way seems to be if you apply outside of Canada and live with your girlfriend inside Canada only leaving every six months or so for immigration purposes.

I know quite a few people would say hire a lawyer but cic make it pretty simple to apply yourself i.e. the DIY route - that´s what I done and every thing turned out fine. Just read everything and seek clarification on sites like this one if your not sure.

Hope this helps to get you started
