Subject: on landing... any ideas anyone?
hi everyone, i have an important question

i just received my immigrant visa. currently i am in canada. for 5 years i had a study permit. then i extended my stay not as a student but as a visitor. my stay expired first week of august. i have, however, applied for an extension couple weeks before my status expired.

so i still dont have my extension. i was wondering, if i have to wait for my extension or can i just go to the us border and immigrate. i know the canadian side would know my stay in canada is legal but would the US know? should i just wait for my visitor?s extension? i really wanna immigrate, i am sick of waiting :((

thank u!!

If you have your immigrant visa in your passport- it´s what the americans will need. Go ahead and land, I don´t think they will be anyproblems with that. Just may be take a payment slip which you get when you applied for extention of your visa, I have being told by the immigration officer on the phone, that since you have applied for extention of your study/work/visitor visa, your stay for to more months since visa´s expiration date is legal (you can not be deprted or something). Moreever, when you will land, you can call to Canada Immigration and if by that time they have not issued you a new visitor visa, you should get money, those you paid for renewal(or extention) of your visa back. It happend to my frieds and they got their money back.
Good luck

Sorry for some typos,
to clarify again: the stay for two more months after visa´s expiration date is legal in Canada as far as you applied for the renewal. Just take that slip about payment ($125-150, I don´t remember) with you as the provement.

thanks for your replies guys :) sorry, my net connection failed a couple days. i think i am gonna go ahead and land and finally start my life for real in canada :).

yes i do have a US visa but apperantly it doesnt matter. they dont let u in if ur goal is to immigrate to canada. and i dont wanna spend money on a US vacation. i just hear that they are very strict at the US border these days and ask for all ur docs and stuff. they even ask how much money u have (not canada, us) and i wanna make sure everything goes fine. i have followed immigration laws a to z. i just want this to go as smoothly as possible.

i will let u know how it goes :)) wish me luck!!! and hang in there everyone :))
