Subject: Sponsorship in US vs in Canada-Which is Faster?
  Hi-

I just finished an MA here, have a job offer and am awaiting a Post-grad work permit approval that will give me a 1 year work permit. I´m also married to a Canadian and from the US.
FINALLY got my FBI fingerprint "all clear" back (4 months later--don´t believe the three week line posted on the Consulate website) and am now filling out all the Pemenant resident paperwork. Does anyone know if it makes a difference to go through applying for permanent residence within Canada, vs. filing through the US, I guess that would be through Buffalo?
I read on canada.com that 85% of spousal sponsorships get settled in 6 months or less, but I haven´t heard of it taking less than 10 months-1 year for anyone who is here and has gone through it. Is either of these faster?
Also, am I allowed to file through Buffalo if I am within Canada?
The reason why is my work contract is only for six months, the work permit is conditional on my employer with a 60 day wait to change employers. Basically I want to get the Perm Res. status as quick as possible. Hate to have to go wait tables in Bellingham to pay my rent in Vancouver b/c my paperwork is taking six months longer because I sent it to the wrong place.
Thanks

You tell everyone you just finished your MA and that you sent your application to the wrong office. LOL

Go to the site www.cic.gc.ca and right side quick links click on processing times outside of Canada spousal and you will see 5-16 months for outside of Canada. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/05-fc-spouses.html

Then hit the back button and view inside Canada and you will see 7-8 months for stage one approval and another year and a half for stage two approval.

GO OUTSIDE and understand that on the IMM 008 schedule one form addressess is the main thing to be careful about if your from Blaine.

Go to the regulations and read regulation 11 which allows persons to apply in the visa post of their coutry of nationallity or in a country they have been legally admitted to for one year. You should go through the Buffalo RPC office way faster.

Like I said the other day doing it yourself is okay but when your in love like this guy sometimes you send the papers to the wrong Immigration office.

Congradulations you made me laugh out loud at 5:55 a.m.

Thanks Roy, but.. (in reply to: Sponsorship in US vs in Canada-Which is Faster?)
Thanks for the advice and glad I could give you a chuckle at 6 in the morning. Last place i lived was Boston, so that would be my last address outside of the two years at UBC. Originally from DC though. What do you mean by being careful about the address from Blaine? I always thought the only thing to do in Blaine is buy cheap cheese? (the 300% dairy import duty makes it way too expensive here in BC.)

NO YOU CAN BE SOME WHERE WHILE YOUR VISITING FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME AND ACTUALLY RESIDE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU ACTUALLY LOOK AT THE FORM AND YOUR GOING TO SUBMIT IN SEPT. YOU PUT DOWN YOU RESIDE SOMEWHERE ELSE IN OCTOBER 2006 AND AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN YOU DON´T ACTUALLY GO BACK TO THAT ADDRESS YOU AMMEND YOUR IMM008 SCHEDULE ONE TO SHOW YOU NEVER WENT BACK TO THAT ADDRESS TO LETS SAY JANUARY 2007.
