depends on how long the background check will take
which is all another issue
(depends on the "complexity" of your file)

How do you know you are under background check?
Will the visa office tell you about it?
My friend´s file is also in New York.
He did Medical in March.
No PPR yet.

I think I am in the same boat with you guys. I had my interview on March 15, 2006 in NY. After the interview the immigration officer told me to submit new FBI Finger print and do the medical sheckup. I did the med checkup on May 2nd, 2006 and sent the new finger print July 20th. Still waiting for a response...................

Everyone has a background check.

The immigration process takes from 20 months to 4 years from when you file the application. There is no set time for when cic can ask you to do certain things.
