Subject: Sponsoring Spouse, PR questions
  Hi everyone!

I got married to my husband a few weeks ago and am now in process of sponsoring him for permanent resident status. He is here in Canada as a visitor which expires in October. I am wondering if it is necessary to extend his stay as a visitor if we are in process of applying for permanent residence.

In addition, on the application form where it asks him to list the addresses he has lived in for the past 10 years, does this include places that he´s travelled to and stayed at for ~6 months? Or does this question just ask for where he´s lived as a resident?

Once the application is sent for processing (which I´ve heard takes about 7-8 months) does this mean he cannot work or study since he is still considered a "visitor"? One last question... if we also apply for an open work permit along with our application does this mean that he would be permitted to start working?

I hope someone can answer my questions! THANKS A LOT!

Annie depending on his country of nationallity and the visa post processing time I strongly recommend processing the application outside of Canada. IT is way faster. Approx 50 days for Mississauga Case Processing Centre then around three months.

Your question regarding the addresses on IMM 008 schedule 1 can list his country from let´s say October 2006 and list your address for the time before. This is based on the presumption you will submit the application in Sept. Then as the form says any changes you have to inform them. So since he changed his mind and did not return home until later because he wanted to be with you then when the visa post is actually processing everything the revised IMM 008 schedule 1 form address question can then be updated.

Hope you understand BUT please make sure you complete the bold questions at the end of the questionnaire forms and include relationship photos that are not marriage photos.
