Subject: Which office to submit sponsorship to?
I´m about to start a sponsored application with my wife (a Canadian citizen and resident). We spoke to an immigration consultant who told us that we´d get a faster resolution, and be able to appeal if something goes wrong, if we we applied through a visa office in my native country (the UK). The government website is full of contradictions and getting hold of someone on the phone is a nightmare! I´m lost - could someone please tell me:

Does my wife have to submit her application to sponsor me to the CPC in Canada, then upon approval she sends it to me, then I send all my stuff and that approval to the high commision in London? Or do we fill in all the forms and send them in one go to the high commission?

Thanks.

the Canadian must have approval in Canada for both types of applications. it goes to different locations within Canada depending on whether you are applying as an inland or out of Canada sponsorship. Yes, out of country sponsorships are going faster but you must be prepared to return to the UK for an interview if requested.

Once the first phase of approval is done, it is then turned over to your home embassy for you side of the approval.

No what happens is you do YOUR medical and police clearance and complete your forms and her forms. Put together all the required documents including processing fees.

Then your Canadian status partner submits EVERYTHING all at once to Mississauga CPC and they forward the package to London once she has been approved as your sponsor.

make sure you both write at least one page about your and your spouse opinion regarding your relationship.

Any instatus people who are aware of how valid your relationship should also write a letter and submit with their proof of status.

Thanks very much, that´s very helpful. One minor extra question, that might require an encyclopeadic knowledge of immigration forms, but here goes: I haven´t seen any fields on the forms, or other differences, that specify that the application should be handled from the UK side rather than from within Canada. I suspect that the decision is made simply by the sponsored partners home address - but am I missing something important? Are there different forms? I don´t want to be filling out the wrong ones... they all look the same to me!
