Subject: RCMP Police Check
Can anyone advise me when I should get apply for my police check from RCMP? I looked online and it takes 5 months to get back to me (at least) - but I know that it is only valid for 6 months and I don´t want it to expire before I get my landed. My application was received in Buffalo, May 2003 and I have yet to hear anything re medicals or telling me to go and get my police check. From what I have read on this site it takes a few months for the medical to be approved also. Getting worried as my current permit expires December 2007. Any advice out there??

Hi Juliet, mine took 2 months to be ready, the PCC supose to be no older than 3 months at the time of submitting it, so lets say if you requested it today, you may get it by mid september and have until december to submit it, when are you expecting your next letter from CIC? that would be the main thing I guess. Plus, you can always ask for a new one, I would say go for it. Good luck.

Thanks Javier - I was expecting to hear from CIC in May - being a year since my papers were received. Not sure why I have heard nothing. The RCMP website I looked at yesterday says it takes in excess of 150 days to process Police Checks.

If you get an RCMP check and its close to expire you can then on the same day get a Name Search ($35.00 approx) which can be done at most station houses. In major cities you probably will have to attend headquarters. Then submit that if your fingerprint results expire and they will probably overlook the expiration date. Some fingerprint organizations like IFS Ontario are getting or have gotten a finger scan process that is much faster and the wait time is approximately two weeks or less.

Since you appear to be in Canada I suggest the above.
