Subject: Visiting Canada and leaving before receiving card!
  Greetings:

I´m in the middle of the skilled worker immigration program. Received notice already on confirmation of receipt and processing, the said my wife and I world be receiving a final response between September (2006) and Jan (2007). We applied in December 2005.

The thing is that I´m willing to visit Toronto for next vacations (November 2006) and might have already this document. So the question is if I can go in and out with the original permit (because the card takes about a month).

The thing is that I´d like to visit Toronto, Montreal and Calgary before leaving my country. What can I do?

If you get PR, you have to land and apply for PR cards. If you leave before you get the cards, you have to apply for a pecial document to re-allow you back into the country (returning residents´ document I think it´s called). If you are a PR you can´t enter on a vsitor´s visa as obviously you´re not a visitor anymore.

You should give the address of someone you know in Canada for the PR card - and if you don´t have a fixed address yet I suggest you find one (e.g. stay in a bed and breakfast in one place and ask them if they will receive it? Then get it when you reenter?). They won´t let you get the PR card outside the country and you can´t have it sent to a post box address.

So that means I can have someone in Canada Send it over to me for reentering Canada, maybe a friend send it by courier?

Wouldn´t leaving without this document affect my residence status? I can have this sent by a friend by a courier or something like that?

No it doesn´t affect your status - you will have the IMM1000 confirmation of PR when you enter, the PR card is just to prove you are one for photo ID and other purposes. As soon as you land you´ll be a PR and they can´t take that away from you unless you stay out too long (forget about that, it´s years in the future).

Don´t know if you can get someone to send it over - call CIC and ask?

You don´t need to ask CIC, just have it delivered to someone who can receive it for you and then courier it to your home country. We did that too when we got ours, had it sent by the receiving person by courier. Don´t have it sent in normal mail, you won´t have no chance to track it. Even if it costs a few extra bucks, courier is the best way to go.
