Subject: Landing and returning to the US in 2-3 days

I am planning to land maybe the 4th of July weekend and come back with a couple days. I will apply for my SIN card and give a relative´s address. I plan to go back and stay on from August onwards. My question is will I need my SIN card in hand to re-enter canada in August? What if I haven´t gotten my SIN card before my trip back?

I would appreciate some feedback :-)

SIN is not required to enter Canada. A PR card is needed to enter once again if the one time entry visa date has already expired.

Once you enter Canada and if you are completing your landing process, at the airport or at the entry post ( if by road )the Immigration officer will complete your COPR form and ask for the address where the PR card needs to be send.

You can always get back into Canada by using your US passport, just as you did before you applied for the PR.

Bob - I don´t have a US passport. How long does it take receive the PR card.

Thanks!

If after landing you then leave and re-enter Canada with U.S. passport (since 30 day wait for PR card), does Canadian border customs know or are concerned about that?

But I wouldn´t think that would be an issue or violation, should it? How otherwise could a U.S. citizen leave and return before receiving the PR card? Maybe you´re supposed to remain in Canada until receieving the PR Card?

Richard and sks, the fact that you can have CIC mail PR card to anyone in Canada assumes, I would think, that you don´t actually have to reside in Canada for the what I believe is a three month period before card is issued.

Thanks again, Bob. I tend to agree with your thinking. Then this assumes use of a foreign passport to come and go until PR Card is received.

I think so, Richard, which sks must have had in order to have applied for the Canadian PR in the first place.
